A Good Example
We recently learned of a new initiative by Bristol-Myers Squibb. We believe that this is an example of great program initiated and funded by a pharmaceutical company. We applaud Bristol-Myers Squibb for this program.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation's innovative $150 million SECURE THE FUTURE® initiative will fund a groundbreaking, multi-part program to provide medical care for African children with HIV/AIDS.
The company and Baylor College of Medicine recently announced that a pediatric AIDS corps will be created to send up to 250 doctors to Africa to treat approximately 80,000 children over the next five years and train local healthcare professionals. In addition, four new clinical centers for children with HIV/AIDS – modeled after a center of excellence funded by the initiative and in operation in Botswana – will be established.
Also, the company is reducing the price of pediatric formulations of HIV medicines in the world's least developed countries to expand access to treatment.
